README for RUI for Mac OS X Version 1.0 Beta 1 of 31 July 2005 20:25 Author: William E. Stevenson Applied Cognitive Science Laboratory School of Information Science and Technology Pennsylvania State University billstevenson@psu.edu About RUI: RUI Records User Input. Specifically, RUI can log keystrokes and mouse actions (movements and clicks) with microsecond precision. RUI requires Mac OS X 10.3 ("Panther") or later, and has been tested up to Mac OS X 10.4.2 ("Tiger"). Usage: rui [-s "Subject Name"] [-p/-r] file Flags: -s ["name"] Specify subject name, in quotes [optional] -p Play back from log file -r Record to log file [default] file Path to log file Note: Only one of -p or -r can be specified. Example Usage: rui -s "Bill Stevenson" -r ~/Desktop/ruioutput.txt RUI Commands: CTRL+R start recording (-r) or playback (p) CTRL+S stop recording More Information: The most straightforward way to use RUI is to launch it from the command-line (/Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and then minimize or hide the Terminal window. The RUI hotkeys will work from within any application, and the timestamps are normalized to when recording starts. Notes: Please consult http://acs.ist.psu.edu/projects/RUI for the latest information on and versions of both RUI for Mac OS X and RUI for Windows. Last Modified 31 July 2005 20:25
