Notes on Registration and Accommodation for ECCM'98

Registration for the 2nd European Conference on Cognitive Modelling
includes admission to all conference activities, including the speaking
sessions, the evening out, the poster session, and a copy of the
proceedings.

Note that the rates go up if you do not register early.  It helps our
planning if you register early.

When registration and payment have been received, a confirmation letter and
receipt will be sent by post to the correspondence address.

The registration includes the price of meals (lunch, dinner) from
Thursday 2 April dinner to Saturday lunch.  We wanted to create a more
retreat-like atmosphere, and other food-based cultural experiences are
not nearby.  (I can also note that the sample meal I had in Willoughby
Hall was surprisingly good, and I look forward to a similar standard
in Nightingale.)

We encourage you to use the on-campus housing for the same reasons. If
you don't want to stay in a hall of residence, other accommodation can
be arranged. Keep in mind that it will be at least a 3 pound taxi ride
to Nightingale Hall, where the sessions will be held.  There is free
parking by both of the halls.  If you are staying at Nightingale, the

Lunch will be available for purchase on 1 and 2 April for people attending
the tutorials.  Tutorial attendees will be notified in a separate mailing.
Information about the tutorials can be found on the conference programme
web site, <http://phoenix.herts.ac.uk/~rmy/eccm98/programme.html>.
If you don't register a week before the tutorial, you may not get to
attend. 

The price of registration includes a night out in a local pub's function
room. The meal is likely to consist of traditional British pub grub, and
will include a pint a beer. There will be traditional pub games available
(including at least dominos, darts, pool, shove-ha'pnny, and skittles).

The rooms in Willoughby are en-suite, meaning that there is a bathroom
(with toilet and sink) attached to your room. The rooms in Nightingale
share a communal shower/toilet/bath room on each (single-sex) wing. There
is likely to be only 4-6 people per wing.

The Soar and ActR tutorials take place from 2 pm to 5:30 pm on 1 April and
from 9 am to 12:30 pm on 2 April.  The Cogent tutorial takes place from 9
am to 12:30 pm on the 2 April.

For those doing posters, the size of posters is a maximum of 6 foot by
3.5 feet (wider than it is tall, approx 1.90m x 1.05m).

We have also received a modest amount to support graduate students to
attend (they do not have to present).  If you would like to be
considered for student support, please send us an email noting (with
"ECCM student support" as the title) (a) who you are and what you work
on, (b) why you want to come, and (c) amount needed, noting other
sources of support (Please note if you currently hold an EPSRC
studentship).  In most cases priority must be given to UK or EC
candidates, but others will be considered if possible.  Applications
received by 15 February will receive equal consideration.  We intend
to reply by 21 February.
